A high-stakes interstellar battle royale, the 1st Giganum Tournament was organized by Cosmos to test the first batch of planets. The reward for the victor, Vulcan, was a celestial promotion to become a star. However, this came at a cost: Cosmos changed Vulcan's name to Sol and erased his memories of the event, then anointed him as the king of the Solar System. The other participating planets were banished to the Dark Beyond, where they later met Kronus and began their rebellion.
